ABOUT US
What do we hope that our viewers will take away from our stories? That history has a way of putting things in perspective. You see, this ‘time travel’ adventure we’ve been on has allowed us to explore how people, societies, attitudes, and events have evolved and shifted over the centuries. Here’s what we’ve discovered: that looking back and learning from it can help us look forward with more clarity. Put succinctly, we can all think ahead by looking behind.
A BRIEF HISTORY
The Tricentennial is a San Antonio celebration that is intrinsically tied to our city’s three hundred years of colorful history. So, naturally, it must focus on stories about what has happened here. These stories substantiate San Antonio’s reputation as a city that is different. We are not like other places. All those people and events from our yesterdays are what made us who we are today. That’s why it’s so important to remember where we’ve been and where we came from. It’s the best way to figure out where we’re going.
OUR MISSION
Our 100 videos have been created to inform, educate, entertain, and fascinate. But even more than that, they are a gift to each and every one of our fellow San Antonians—and those who come to visit, too. We want this to be the kind of gift that just keeps on giving, long after the Tricentennial Celebration year is over. We want to help increase greater understanding and appreciation—and maybe even reverence—for what San Antonio was. And to make each viewer out there feel like they are linked to it in a very real way.
The idea of creating these stories for TV came from local cinematographer Michael Bowie. He has a long-time love and interest in San Antonio and its history. He reached out to writer Becky Benavides, who in turn reached out to animator Randall Rudd and researcher Michele Stanush. The rest, as they say, is history!
