STORY TELLING

When we first discussed how we were going to tell each story, we agreed that each story would focus intensely on a single, little-known moment/event/person in our city’s past. We would look for the “uncommon.” Because if all someone wanted was the historical facts about San Antonio, that person could just go and look them up on Wikipedia. Instead, we want to take those facts—including some rather quirky, offbeat ones—and surround them with attitude. That’s what will make them memorable. That’s what will create the kind of story that will generate discussion and excitement about our city’s history, and stimulate local pride when people discover just how remarkable this city is.

In essence, each one will be a compelling, “short-short” story. And finally—each of the stories will link our past to the present day—so that they are relevant to San Antonians and visitors alike.

We also agree that we don’t want these stories to come off like the kind of boring history class that some of us, unfortunately, experienced during our school days. So we are making a point of writing the scripts in a very conversational, informal style. They also had to have emotion. So some are lighthearted. Some are darkly dramatic. Some are a bit of both. Those kinds of scripts, combined with creative animation, EFX, editing and sound design help add some “eye-and-ear candy” to the historic facts and images we are using The people who got early sneak peeks of some of our demonstration videos tell us that we succeeded in our quest to add an “entertainment factor” to our little history lessons. Guess we’ll see if the general public agrees—or not—by the audience response our stories get on air, and the number of hits we get on this website.

We’ll end this with a gentle suggestion: if you like our stories and how we’ve told them, please tell others, and refer them to this website. Of course, if you don’t like them, we really hope you’ll forget you ever saw or heard of them! Like Thumper explained to Bambi, “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say nothin’ at all.”
